Bunny Mellon Greenhouse: A Living Legacy

June 9, 2026

Last May, Southern Highlands Reserve opened the doors to one of the most meaningful additions in our organization’s history — a state-of-the-art greenhouse facility named in honor of the late Rachel “Bunny” Mellon. An icon of American horticulture, garden design, and botanical passion, Bunny Mellon embodied a reverence for plants and the natural world that resonates deeply with everything Southern Highlands Reserve stands for.

Through the generous support of the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation, the Bunny Mellon Greenhouse is a working conservation facility at the heart of our mission — a place where rare and endangered native plants are propagated, where seeds are carefully collected and banked for long-term preservation, and where SHR can serve as a trusted partner in regional and national conservation efforts.
